15 years of the magic of KABAN

15 years ago, in the natural surroundings of Kapellerput, an extraordinary concept became reality: the KABAN, a meeting room that stays with you. A treehouse dinner in Indonesia and a documentary on tree hotels gave Rik Hüsken, Nicole Elbers and then-business partner Jeu Bressers an idea. They wanted to build a treehouse for business meetings. It became a space where inspiration, wonder and meeting come together, in the middle of nature.

What makes the KABAN so special? It starts on the stairs: you don't immediately see where you are walking. Only at the top does the view of the lake unfold; a literal and figurative highlight. The KABAN is six metres above the ground, with a view of trees, birds and water. Inside, the space offers everything needed for a successful meeting. "Guests describe it as a special place that really does something to you," says owner Rik Hüsken.

Since its opening in 2010, the KABAN has become an iconic meeting space. With now over 1,400 bookings, it is a popular choice among guests at Kapellerput. But the impact extends beyond the guest list: the KABAN is receiving worldwide attention. From a publication in an Indonesian lifestyle magazine to an honourable place in the prestigious book Tree Houses: Fairy Tale Castles in the Air by publisher Taschen, edited by Philip Jodidio. Architecture magazines, design platforms and business magazines also wrote about this inspiration spot high up in the trees.

The KABAN has grown with the times. Whereas the interior used to deliberately contrast with nature, such as white walls and austere furniture, over the years more connection with the outside was sought. Nature was brought indoors, partly through warm, forest-green colours that reinforce the outdoor feeling. Yet one thing remained unchanged: the unique power of nature. KABAN remains a place where ideas are born, heads are emptied and people get to the heart of the matter.

And the future? It looks green. More and more companies are looking for smaller, meaningful venues. In KABAN, they find exactly that, combined with the quality and hospitality of Kapellerput. The KABAN continues to inspire, each time in a different way.
