No fewer than five special bat species live on our estate.

A special nature project has been realised on the Kapellerput estate: the bat hotel. The idea arose when we regularly saw bats flying at dusk. Colleague Monique from Team Welcome became inspired, took the initiative and made contact with IVN. Together they planned a night observation, which included wildlife cameras. The images confirmed what we already suspected: no fewer than five unusual bat species live on our estate.

This discovery marked the start of a valuable collaboration with IVN and Brabants Landschap. Together with the Youth IVN, a special winter accommodation was built: a frost-free bat hotel where the animals can retreat when it gets really cold. In addition, 12 hives were hung and placed in trees on the estate. These are safe hiding places where bats raise their young in spring and find shelter in milder weather.

During the annual Night of the Night event on Saturday 24 October 2025, the bat hotel was officially and festively opened and the information board unveiled. A great example of how nature, education and involvement reinforce each other at Kapellerput!

Our first guest moved into the Fladderhotel on our estate in early 2026. A Great-eared bat no less, and a real pioneer. That bodes well for the future and for the bats in our region. A fine crowning achievement for de samenwerking with the IVN, Brabants Landschap and the bat project.
